  • Overview

    The Underground Utility monitors the active mining operations with respect to quality and other MLC responsibility items.


    • Perform required workplace inspections within the underground operations of the mine
    • Monitor and record log information for all active mining operations. Areas that are drilled, blasted, mucked, scaled, bolted, along with stockpile placement.  Provide logs to plant management.
    • Maintain an updated photo log of all active headings within the underground mine
    • Monitor and map all underground water collection areas and current pumping equipment
    • Collect quality samples from active work areas within the mine. Prep and analyze samples to assist the Lab Analyst.
    • Perform audits / inspections on roof bolting equipment and storage facilities.
    • Manage and coordinate with plant management the necessary roof bolting consumables.
    • Coordinate between the surface plant operations and the mining operations on a daily/weekly basis to ensure that quality material is prioritized while accounting for operational constraints.\

    Perform all functions of the General Utility Position

    • Performing and documenting workplace inspections as well as stationary and mobile equipment inspections as required.
    • Performing cleanup activities and maintaining a clean work environment in multiple areas, including stone handling systems, hydraulic and preheater systems, fuel handling systems, lime handling systems and loadout systems.
    • Maintaining the kiln operation in a safe and orderly manner to minimize risk of injury to people and damage to equipment.
    • Effectively communicating and convey information on the condition of equipment to the appropriate responsible person.
    • Performing minor repairs and adjustments safely and with proper training.
    • Creating work requests using computers and plant software as required for jobs in which their ability is exceeded
    • Operating mobile equipment including skid steer, fork lifts, highlift man baskets, front end loader, off road haul trucks. Using hand / power tools, and other equipment necessary to perform all job functions.
    • Work and coordinate with supervisors, team leaders, and engineers to strive for continuous improvement, safety, and operational efficiency of the Verona facility

    Perform all functions of the Load Technician Position

    • Maintain and follow the loadout schedule and loadout process as directed by the Production Planner
    • Load the correct material into the correct customer truck based on the loadout schedule provided by the Production Planner
    • Create Bill of Lading documentation for all outbound truck shipments
    • Collect and label required customer loadout samples.


    • Work a combination of rotating 12hr shifts and 8hr shifts, both day shift and night shifts, as well as weekends and holidays
    • Work in an underground mining environment – Room and Pillar operation.
    • High School diploma or equivalent,
    • 1 to 3 years of mining or manufacturing experience
    • The individual must have the ability to observe the work environment, collect data and independently solve problems or make recommendations for correcting identified deficiencies.
    • The individual must be capable of working under minimum supervision and be motivated to improve the production process through the use and application of preventative maintenance tools, practices, and technology.
    • The individual must have the ability to climb steps and ladders, work in elevated areas, work in all weather conditions, and other conditions as necessary.
    • Basic computer skills including MS Office
    • Basic troubleshooting and the ability to make small production repairs
    • Operate mobile equipment
    • Read and understand reference materials including manuals and drawings
