  • Overview

    The Plant Leader will lead the operations team and oversee technical development and evolution of Mississippi Lime's Chester Operation.  The position is responsible for creating, implementing, and ensuring compliance of initiatives at the Chester site.  The focus is on team development, customer satisfaction for product quality and delivery, reliability improvement, process stability and repeatability.  The Plant Leader also provides mentorship and core competency development for their team. This person will develop, design, and implement projects as needed.


    • Interface with other resource leaders and management to develop strategies for the business.
    • Functions both Site and Company Wide.
    • Monitor and encourage communication and information transfer across all business units.
    • Insure coordination and alignment between engineering, maintenance, production and traffic.
    • Balance and adjust priorities based on changing conditions
    • Ensure that appropriate technologies, systems and rigor are utilized in operation support and project execution
    • Makes sure that the Chester personnel have all the resources and training they need to do their job with excellence.
    • Set standards of performance consistent with product needs
    • Perform general engineering work for product line:
    • Troubleshooting
    • OPEX improvement projects
    • Overall, proactive process monitoring
    • Ensure Maintenance / Project focus on:
    • Reliability (OST – equipment)
    • Materials of construction (define / execute)
    • Engineering Standards
    • Meets and Exceeds customer expectations
    • Supervise and Lead the capital spending processes in the assigned area.
    • Key function of the position is to manage the project.
    • Project justification, implementation, and execution are the primary functions of the role.
    • Oversee and Manage engineering resources to ensure project success.
    • Identify Stakeholders on each project, communicate with them, and define what success looks like to each of them.
    • Provide construction management supervision and represent MLC in the project construction phase. Ensure MLC Engineering standards and Safety standards are followed through the entire project timeline.
    • Maintain compliance with all State and Federal Environmental Laws and Regulations in design of repairs to equipment or installation of new systems.
    • Issue project schedules and periodic reports on capital project.
    • Communicate activities with other corporate functions including Safety and Health, Environmental Affairs, Purchasing and Sales to ensure timely information exchange and coordination of work.
    • Work with purchasing to acquire quotations for equipment and services.
    • Project Execution and Close
    • Manages Team Members to meet production goals.
    • Ensure key performance indicators (KPI’s) are developed,  utilized, and goals met.
    • Develop and maintain work standards and SOPs.
    • Establish priorities that create focus, and reconcile conflicting work demands placed on resource team members
    • Make sure team members understand and adhere to functional and site-wide systems, standards and procedures.
    • Ensure that team members have clear responsibility for tasks and decisions with specific objectives.
    • Communicate and implement change initiatives for their business.
    • Ensure functional and technical capability exists in team to manage their process.
    • Work with team members to build and execute a personal development plan, providing coaching as requested.
    • Ensures plant personnel are trained on and operating under plant SOPs
    • Build technical trouble shooting skills in the Process and Maintenance Departments.
    • Assist in management of external resources
    • Develop Process Technicians by providing technical expertise and training for Process Technicians; encourage teams to become self-directed.
    • Develops systems to train and transfer support of plant requirements to Process Technicians to improve operating discipline.
    • Ensure site policies and standards are understood, and that the team members adhere to them.
    • Ensures personnel compliance with MLC Safety Standards
    • Ensures compliance with all MSHA and OSHA requirements.
    • Monitors, Measures, Allocates, and Controls all company Energy and material flows
    • Tracks and Evaluates Specific Energy Consumption of Operations
    • Budget of capital projects within product group and tracking of performance


    • High School diploma or equivalent required
    • BA/BS Degree BSChE, BSME, BSEE preferred
    • MUST have 5+ years’ supervisory experience.
    • 5+ years’ experience in process manufacturing plant with bulk material handling equipment knowledge a plus.
    • Functional/technical knowledge and/or experience commensurate to the role/job
    • Interest in and commitment to teamwork and team based systems
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Excellent listening, coaching and communication skills.
